Being a mom...

I just want to take this opportunity to share a funny story...

Bjørn had just left to go play hockey for the evening. I set Leif on my lap at the computer desk, with my hand supporting his butt. He was content, and I proceeded to type up an email. Well, I didn't get very far...all of a sudden I heard the typical squirting sounds that indicate that Leif is filling his diaper. However, not only was he filling his diaper, but he was filling my hand as well! Yep...poop was leaking out the side of his diaper. I quickly grabbed the crumpled napkin that was fortunately sitting on the desk to catch what I could and raced him upstairs to his changing table! Fortunately, most of it went into his diaper and on my jeans and not on the chair or floor. Even his onesie remained clean for the most part. Not only that, but his poop doesn't really smell that much...I'm expecting that it'll worsen quite a bit when he starts eating solid foods!

Before I had Leif, I dreaded the thousands of diapers to change and the constant crying...but I have found that I don't mind it so much. He's just too darn cute! We are discovering more and more about his little personality with just his little cries, facial expressions, etc. I actually thought this leakage incident was quite humorous and since I didn't have Bjørn there to laugh at me, I had to laugh at myself and share this with you, the reader.

I know there will be many more poopy incidents, along with wetting the bed, vomiting, and peeing on the floor, but hey, being a mom is the best! I wouldn't trade it for the world:)

P.S. Leif rolled over by himself for the first time today and he now weighs around 12 lbs!
P.P.S. I have been discovering lots of lint between his toes and fingers (where does it come from!? I suppose he kicks and moves around a lot!) along with the smell of stinky feet...I think we need to bathe him more than once or twice a week. I thought that more than that would dry out his skin too much, but I suppose cleanliness is important too!

Happy Thanksgiving! (A Note from Leif)

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! It's my second holiday, and I'm only 6 1/2 weeks old! Mommy and Daddy tell me that turkey is good but I don't even know what a turkey is. Oh well. They want to let you all know how thankful we are for all of you!

I've grown quite a bit in just a few weeks (over 9 lbs. now) so I thought I'd share some more pictures and milestones with you...

I can hold my head up pretty well now!

Bundling up to go to church...I still have some room to grow!

After I eat, I like to take a long nap on the couch. Daddy said that even adults sometimes do this, especially during Thanksgiving!

Sitting in my swing...

I like to stare at the part of the swing that moves.
I got my first cold this past week...all three of us were sick! I was getting tired of Mom and Dad sticking this thing in my nose, so I confiscated it.

I celebrated Mommy and Daddy's 2nd wedding anniversary by smiling at them for the first time on the 11th (I tried smiling a few days before that but I had a hard time convincing them it wasn't gas...this time they knew for sure that I was happy!). I can now see my toys hanging on my bouncer seat--they are fun to bat at with my arms.

The great-grandkids (Kayla, Dawson, Riley, and I)...we're just missing Stuart, Baby Nelson, and Baby Dyrud!
Mom was embarrassing me at Dawson's 1 year old birthday party!

Daddy and I having a heart-to-heart.

The chicks really dig spikey hair!

First Month

Wow, time flies! Leif is now three weeks old and is doing well! We've had many visitors the past couple weeks and are amazed at how generous and supportive everyone has been! Bjørn loves his role as the "Stay-at-home Daddy," and I've really enjoyed watching my two boys interact. I'm back at school now in the mornings (it's a nice schedule) and am all caught up with exams finally. Leif had his two week apt. this past week and now weighs 8 lbs. 11 oz.--over a pound from his birth weight! He is also an inch taller (21) and his head is an inch bigger. We think his cheeks have gotten chubbier too. We love all the little facial expressions and noises he makes. He sleeps a lot during the day and lets us know when he is hungry! He doesn't sleep through the night yet--sleep comes in three hour shifts—needless to say, we take a lot of naps. Though it's a lot of work, Bjørn and I love being parents and thank God everyday for our little one!

Well, below are pictures from the past three weeks! If you click on them you can see them enlarged.

Leif's first holiday--Halloween!
We told him to make a scary face.
He's such a good kicker, Daddy thought he might be ready for walking!

Grandma Connie and Grandpa Mark came to visit!

The first bath was quite a new experience. He no longer cries during his baths now!
Bright sunshine
On October 19, 2008 we had Leif dedicated at our church. We pledged, as parents, to raise Leif up “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord,” making every reasonable effort, with patience and love, to build the Word of God, the character of Christ and the joy of the Lord into his life.

Riley liked holding a real baby (not just a doll)!

Bjørn and Grandma Hanson went walking on the Stone Arch Bridge.

Our little "burrito"
Leif has developed a habit of pulling his hair in the back of his head. He likes his pacifier as well.
Alissa's cousin Mike came to visit while in MN (haven't seen him in a long time!), and we met his wife, Ashley and 2 mo. old daughter Mikayla.

Cousin Stuart is glad to have a little buddy. Whenever someone else held Leif, Stuart would say, "No, I hold baby Leif!"

Stu loves helmets, and Uncle Bjørn has lots of them!

Little Leif Sevig

Well, on October 10th at 11:18am Leif Sevig Hanson was born into this world (pronounced Lay-f and middle name is in honor of Bjørn's grandparents). He weighed 7lbs and 8oz. and was 20.3 inches long. We have been waiting for this little man to come out now for a while. He was 6 days past his due date so we were starting to get anxious to meet our child.
